Lucy Turnbull’s Pearl Earrings

Lucy Turnbull is a former Lord Mayor of Sydney, the daughter of Tom Hughes; a former Attorney General of Australia, niece of the late art critic; Robert Hughes and the wife of the current Prime Minister; Malcolm Turnbull.

…Who appears to have married up.

In this image of Mrs Turnbull, we see her wearing a pair of clip-on South Sea Pearl Earrings.

I think everyone should wear their Australian pearls with pride. We produce the best and most beautiful pearls in the world and they should stand to attention when on your ears. Unfortunately the pearls Mrs Turnbull is wearing seem to be a bit nonchalant; falling forwards on her ears as if they were about to doze off.

There are reasons for this and a remedy as well.

As you can see from the image above we need to raise the face of the pearls about 45 degrees so they are sitting perpendicular to Mrs Turnbull’s Face.

From the image, it seems that the pearls are set with a post and clip (assuming Mrs Turnbull has pierced ears). This mechanism would be providing a lot of unnecessary weight also accounting for our po-faced pearl earrings. If we were to change the post and clip fitting to a large handmade butterfly, as shown below, then we would remove a lot of the weight – and Mrs Turnbull’s pearls would certainly lift a notch or two.

If you do want to wear your Australian Pearls with pride but find they slouch on your ears then despair not; for we have the technology to make your pearls beam with confidence. If you don’t have pierced ears then the remedy might involve a new hole or two. If you are a loyal customer of David Benn Fine Jewellery and have been avoiding getting your ears pierced, we will pay for you to have your ears pierced and will also present you with a bottle of Champagne to celebrate the event.

A Day at the Races

Catherine Elizabeth “Kate” Middleton is the wife of Prince William Duke of Cambridge. Since marrying Prince William, Kate Middleton has become one of the most popular members of the royal family and one of the most recognised. The Duchess of Cambridge is pictured here attending day 2 of Royal Ascot at Royal Ascot Racecourse. The Duchess is dressed in a beautiful Dolce and Gabbana lace dress perfectly matched with a Jane Taylor woven gold fascinator and a pair of drop pearl earrings.

…and, for some inexplicable reason, a name tag.

Our very own Spring Carnival has started and Melbourne Cup Day will soon be upon us. The perfect opportunity to dress up and drink champagne on a Tuesday afternoon. To help make your Melbourne Cup Day an unbridled success, here are a few of my very own hot tips.

1. Wear something that tells people you’re going to a Melbourne Cup Day Function. Wear a hat or fascinator or even carry a form guide. You don’t want people to think you’re overdressed and drinking champagne on some random Tuesday afternoon for no reason.

2. Having a flutter can be a lot of fun but bear in mind that even if the jockey is wearing your favourite colours, the number of the horse is the same as your birthday and reminds you of your older sister, it probably won’t win. Don’t bet the farm on The Melbourne Cup.

3. Don’t wear black. You’re not going to a funeral and you don’t live in New Zealand. It’s Springtime and it’s a happy day so wear something colourful.

4. Don’t wear sequins to the Melbourne Cup. Unless, of course, your Melbourne Cup function happens to be in Toowoomba in 1986. In which case, too many sequins won’t be enough.

5. Consider your footwear carefully especially if you’re going to be outside among horses. There is nothing worse than standing in something green and sloppy.

6. If by chance you do find yourself chatting to Kate Middleton on Melbourne Cup Day and halfway through the conversation you forget who you’re talking to and need to look at her name tag to remind yourself who she is then you’ve obviously had one too many champagnes. You need to take yourself home. Your Melbourne Cup Day is over.

All the images in this post were taken at the recent 50 Year Anniversary Ball of the Quirindi Branch of the Children’s Medical Research Institute. The ball was held at the iconic Windy Station Woolshed on Saturday the 4th of March.

Windy Station Woolshed

Windy Station Woolshed was built in 1901 by the Australian Agricultural Company which was formed under an act of British Parliament some 77 years earlier. An immense structure fabricated entirely of wood and corrugated iron, it is a majestic example of Federation Carpenter Architecture with a strong resemblance to the large Finger Wharves constructed in Sydney at the same time. A testament to an age when Australia really did ride on the sheep’s back.

On Saturday the 4th of March the Quirindi Committee of the Children’s Medical Research Institute is holding their “Fields of Gold” 50th Anniversary Ball at Windy Station Woolshed.

David Benn fine jewellery have donated a pair of our famous South Sea Pearl earrings for the event and I am really looking forward to attending on the night

If you would like to know more about this event or perhaps even attend a black tie ball in the iconic Windy Station Woolshed then click here for further details.
